Italy, it is known, besides being home to saints, poets and navigators, is also the birthplace of some of the car manufacturers that have made racing history.
In this article, we review all the most important and iconic automobile museums in Italy in a virtual tour that will provide you with useful information regarding the type of museums, their locations, ticket prices, and useful info on how to get there. Ready? Let’s get going!
Ferrari Museums in Modena and Maranello
We could only start with what is in all likelihood the absolute symbolic brand of Italian motoring excellence in the world: the Ferrari Museums.
We use the plural not by chance, since the Prancing Horse has as many as two places dedicated to its history of triumphs and technical and aesthetic innovation: one in Modena, the birthplace of Ferrari (and its founder Enzo), and the other in Maranello, in what we can call the current residence of the ‘Rossa’.
These are not two ‘clone’ museums, as the spaces offer different attractions and a specific concept.
The one in Modena, built around the original workshop, is the Enzo Ferrari Museum, dedicated to the founder of the Prancing Horse. Inside the gallery, it is possible to retrace the earliest history of the Modena brand, from its origins; the tour includes a visit to the original workshop where Enzo Ferrari made his first designs and some of the most significant and successful cars in history.
Instead, Maranello is home to the Ferrari Museum, which offers a tour of discovery of the Cavallino’s entire car fleet, and then declines to offer excitement and adrenaline, thanks in part to the F1 simulator, to experience the thrills of a real Formula 1 driver, the vibrations of the single-seater, and the prospect of world competition.

Senna Memorial
The Senna Memorial is the quintessential place to remember and pay tribute to one of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history: we are of course talking about Ayrton Senna.
The monument dedicated to the Brazilian champion, who died tragically on May 1, 1994, is located in Imola’s Acque Minerali Park – near the Curva del Tamburello of the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Autodrome in Imola – and, since its inauguration in 1997, has been a pilgrimage destination for his fans. The statue, made of bronze and about 2 meters high, was created by Pietrasanta-based artist Stefano Pierotti and depicts Ayrton in a seated position, holding flowers. Underneath, stands the phrase “I think I am very far from a way of life that I would like,” uttered by Senna himself.

Panini Maserati Museum
The Panini Maserati Museum, also known as the Panini Motor Museum or the Umberto Panini Collection stands in the city of Modena.
The story of founder and owner Umberto Panini-and of the museum itself-is fascinating: the man began his professional career as a worker at Maserati, then found his fortune in Argentina; this enabled him, in 1997 and four years after Maserati’s transition within the FIAT group, to purchase 19 Maserati models, which would go on to form the basic structure of the museum space, which today also houses vintage cars of other major brands.
The museum is located in Modena, in an area adjacent to his farm, where Panini is dedicated to the production and sale of parmesan cheese.
