The Ferrari 458 Challenge was created expressly for track use, and destined to give rise to an exciting one-make championship.
The 458 Challenge’s engine is the 4.5-liter V8 direct-injection, 570 hp at 9000 rpm, also mounted on the 458 Italia, with torque at low revs increased by intervening on the gear ratio and calibration of the F1 dual-clutch gearbox.
It has an electronic E-Diff differential, and to lighten it instead, materials such as carbon fiber and Lexan have been used extensively, on the body thicknesses but also inside the cabin.
To improve the car’s performance, Ferrari engineers designed the world’s most sophisticated traction control system: the F1-Trac, a device that continuously processes the state of grip on the ground, with two calibrations depending on asphalt conditions (dry and wet), with control derived from Formula 1 racing.
The rider can manage ABS, E-Diff and F1-Trac via a knob, with which he can choose to use wet or dry configurations, and in the latter case it will be possible to disable traction control.
