Everything you need to know about the Ferrari Museums in Modena and Maranello. Where they are located, times, prices, and what to see.
It is impossible to tell the story of Ferrari and what it represents in the Italian and global imagination in a sufficiently comprehensive way. The two Ferrari Museums in Modena and Maranello, however, succeed in their intent excellently.
Two places of worship, the Modena of Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the Prancing Horse, and Maranello, the beating heart of the ‘Rossa’ industry: there stand the two museum spaces dedicated to Ferrari, the brand that, more than anything else, has helped to launch, enhance and consecrate Made in Italy in the world.
The Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena
The Enzo Ferrari House Museum, founded and managed by the Fondazione casa di Enzo Ferrari-Museo, was inaugurated on March 10, 2012, and was born out of a desire to pay tribute to the life of Enzo Ferrari, the creator and originator of the Ferrari brand.
The museum space is built inside a building shaped like a car hood and yellow in color (the color Enzo Ferrari himself chose for the company logo, intending to pay homage to the official colors of the City of Modena). The attractive centerpiece and red thread of the Ferrari Museum in Modena is, as mentioned above, the legendary figure of Enzo Ferrari: the area allows visitors to visit the first workshop in which the Modenese manufacturer operated, reconstructed very faithfully to the original version.
In addition to the exhibits and rooms purely dedicated to the carmaker’s founder, the museum features a number of exhibits on the world of Ferrari and beyond: the models that made Ferrari’s history, an entire wing dedicated to the Cavallino Rampante’s old engines, and another reserved for viewing the film dedicated to Enzo Ferrari’s life.
In addition to the permanent exhibits and included in the assets of Ferrari Spa (which has directly controlled the museum since 2014), the Ferrari museum also offers a series of temporary exhibits, again concerning the universe of engines.
The facility is also distinguished by its futuristic design, which is especially evident in the environmental sustainability with which it is conceived and by the almost total absence of architectural barriers.
The Ferrari Museum in Maranello
We can consider the Ferrari Museum in Maranello to be the place where the history and worship of the Ferrari racing stable and car manufacturer is purely celebrated. The museum is located a few meters from the Maranello manufacturing plant and about 20 km from Modena.
Here are a few numbers to give some idea of the importance and size of the site:
- It covers an area of about 2,500 square meters.
- Founded in 1990, it has been under the direct control of Ferrari since 1995.
- It welcomes an average of more than 340,000 visitors each year.
Covering the entire history of the Cavallino, the museum houses the most iconic models in Ferrari’s history, trophies, photographs, and numerous other Ferrari memorabilia in a structure that is divided into several rooms:
- Cars on display: where to visit the most famous cars and components made for Ferrari cars.
- GranTurismo Hall: dedicated to special series.
- Hall of Victories: in which trophies won in history by the Modena stable are kept.
- Competition Hall: with Enzo Ferrari’s office preserved in its authenticity.
- The Ferrari box and wall, installed in the museum in its authentic version.
- The store: where to buy Ferrari gadgets and collectibles.
The Ferrari Museum in Maranello, as well as the one in Modena, hosts multiple temporary exhibitions dedicated to the world of engines.
